Meet Bob Dandenault, Director at Manitoba Hydro

During his assignment in Mozambique, Bob worked with MHI staff to raise donations towards the purchase of Christmas hampers. Bob and his family distributed the hampers to a small community in the area.

“It was quite an honour to hand out the hampers to the villagers. Their genuine expressions of thanks were very touching and yanked at our heartstrings. This experience turned out to be a wonderful Christmas gift to our family from a little village in Mozambique. We will always cherish this memory.” – Bob Dandenault.

Bob Dandenault is the Generation South Director at Manitoba Hydro, where he leads a team of over 400 staff. His division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Manitoba Hydro’s southern fleet, which consists of 11 hydroelectric and 2 thermal generating stations, with an installed capacity of over 2,100 megawatts (MW).

During his career at Manitoba Hydro, Bob has participated in several international assignments with MHI including working in Mozambique, Paraguay, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Bob credits excellent travel benefits, flexible work arrangements, and the opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of professionals as some of the benefits of working with MHI.

“Working with MHI for the past 8 years, I have learned new skills and techniques from other consultants on the team and often from clients themselves,” says Bob. “I was able to improve my communication skills, learn to adapt to new work environments, and was able to prepare for more senior positions in my career.”

In 2010, Bob participated in MHI’s Cahora Bassa Technical Assistance and Monitoring Services project in Mozambique. As the Resident Technical Advisor, he worked with Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa, which operates the Cahora Bassa hydropower plant.

Bob was responsible for the day to day monitoring and provision of technical and operations management guidance on technical and operational issues, related to the 2,075-MW hydropower facility, HVDC converter station, and associated HVDC and HVAC transmission facilities.
