Meet Kimberly Laing, Marketing Officer
In her role as a Marketing Officer, Kimberly Laing has travelled all over the world to promote MHI’s innovative services and products to clients at various conferences and events. Her most notable trips were to Manila in the Philippines for the Asian Development Bank’s Opportunities Fair, where she delivered presentations, and attended networking sessions and business development meetings.

In addition, Kim compiles expressions of interest, proposals, and reports to bid on engineering consulting projects, and oversees the administration of the project from award to completion.
What made you want to pursue a career in your industry?
I have always been fascinated by other cultures and wanted to pursue a career in international business. Working in the field of clean and renewable energy is rewarding, and makes me feel like I’m making a difference in the world.
What is the most enjoyable, interesting, or exciting aspect of your job?
When I wake up in the morning, I never know what the day has in store. I really enjoy the quick pace at MHI and the amazing people on my team. Working with such skilled and experienced engineers is truly a gift, and they always amaze me. I still can’t believe what we accomplish under this roof.
What has been your greatest lesson learned in your career so far?
Quite simply, I always try to have fun at work. Whether this is through day to day activities in the office, travelling for conferences and business development meetings, or working on a big project with a team. Your attitude changes and affects everything.
How would you describe working at MHI to a prospective employee?
I would tell anyone thinking about working for MHI to go for it. We are so lucky here. The corporate culture is vibrant and ever changing. There is no boredom in tasks and there are so many opportunities to expand your horizons. This is a place where you can make lasting relationships and call home.
What is something that you wish others knew about your industry or area of expertise?
The work we do in power systems is extremely fascinating. Our team of engineers has to continually stay up to date on innovative techniques and industry trends to meet an ever changing and sometimes challenging landscape. Software tools, such as PSCAD™, and technologies developed in our labs are continually enhanced based on feedback from the industry. It’s incredible to see the products and services that we create right here in Manitoba. This is the kind of work that puts Manitoba on the map. Everywhere I travel, I witness the strong reputation we have built, as a centre of innovation and expertise.
