Formation for Southern Africa Power Pool

Provide assistance through short-term consultancy contracts to the member countries of the Southern Africa Power Pool to establish the Pool and provide operations training courses and seminars on interconnected operations.

Specifically MHI:

• Conducted an operations study of the interconnected system operations of the Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia
• Compiled a comprehensive report with recommendations dealing with trading regimes, automatic generation control, operator training and selection criteria, and reliability standards and requirements
• Developed the economic and reliability evaluation for reserve sharing after adoption of the control scheme and reliability standards recommendations, follow-up work and training
• Developed base documents for the formation of the Southern African Power Pool
• Provided further consulting and training services in interconnected operation for Botswana, Republic of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Zambia following the issue of the operations report
