EPRI-HVDC Life Extension Report

MHI assisted in the preparation of a HVDC Life Extension report for Electric Power Research Institute Inc. (EPRI). This report was conducted due to aging HVDC converter stations and transmission lines installations, decreasing knowledge due to retiring engineering and technical staffs, and the availability of increasingly advanced technology. MHI assisted in the creation of guidelines describing strategies to extend the life of HVDC system equipment through the optimization of operation, maintenance, and reliability assessments for HVDC Systems. These guidelines help increase existing asset utilization by extending the life of HVDC systems, and thus increase revenue by selling the extra transmission capacity.
