Transmission Maintenance Training Project
The goal of the project was to establish a functional training institute to train Engineers and Technicians employed by the Egyptian Electrical Authority, and to establish a secondary school training program of three years duration to prepare high-school students to enter the technician training program and join the EEA work force. This project consisted of 5 Major sections - protection, communications, sub-stations maintenance, transmission lines and program development. The program was established in an existing training institute in the south end of the city of Cairo called the Cairo South Training Institute.
MHI completed the following tasks:
- Analyze the training needs.
- Visit all field work locations to perform field task analysis to determine actual job responsibilities so that training courses could be designed to meet those needs.
- Ensure that facility is adequately prepared to accommodate training equipment and offer a safe environment conducive to training.
- Expedite the delivery of training equipment that was ordered on the original order lists, and order additional equipment as the project progressed. Procure used training equipment from within the authority. This often involved clearing articles through the customs systems.
- Install/commission pre-packaged training equipment and "field-replica" training equipment.
- Review pre-packaged course re-edit and modify, select appropriate material to meet local needs - train instructors, implement courses - monitor progress.
- Write course material on "field replica" equipment, teach pilot courses, train instructors - monitor performance.
- Work closely with course development specialist to ensure that all course material was consistent with performance based training practises used on the project.
- Develop and deliver training programs.
- Perform hands on training in basic maintenance on transmission lines and associated equipment.
- Train EEA engineers, technicians and linemen to deliver the training programs.
- Promote safe working practices and the use of personal protective equipment.
