Regional Power Trade Project - Power Markets Tariff Design and Settlements Training

MHI has successfully delivered power markets tariff design and settlements training to system planning experts (engineers, economists, market regulators, and related disciplinarians) drawn from the ministries responsible for electricity, power utilities, and relevant power development agencies in Nile Basin Initiative member countries.

The training was focused on equipping participants with the principles, techniques, models, and templates used in power market transmission and generation tariff-design and transaction settlements. Training topics included tariff composition and the techniques for deriving the various components comprising a power tariff; guidelines for transmission and generation tariff design and development at the national and regional level; and power market transactions and settlements and the role of a market regulator. Training discussions also covered the topic of treatment of subsidies, socio-economic, and environmental issues in a cross-border power tariff setting. The training also assisted the experts in gaining hands-on skills in various tariff design templates and models and provided them with knowledge of data and information that is necessary for proper tariff design.
