International Women’s Day (March 8) is an opportunity to recognize the women whose leadership, expertise, and dedication help shape our organization and our industry. Across every role and department, women continue to drive innovation, strengthen collaboration, and bring diverse perspectives that make our work better and more impactful. In an industry that relies on insight, resilience, and forward thinking, the contributions of women are not only valuable—they are essential. This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to highlight several of the remarkable women within our organization whose work, passion, and commitment help move our industry forward every day.

Peyton Cochrane — Project Professional Accountant

While the landscape and diversity of professional accounting has improved significantly in the 21st century, there is still progress to be made when it comes to women’s representation in leadership roles. When I began my first professional accounting job after graduating in 2018, less than five percent of the partners in my office were women. It can be difficult to aspire to those roles when you don’t see enough women represented in them. One of the things I truly appreciate about MHI is the number of women in senior leadership positions. It’s incredibly inspiring to see leaders like Christine Schwab (and previously Shawna Pachal), Michelle Vuong, Lauren Krahn, and Liisa Maki helping to run the business, along with the many talented women in Shared Services that I have the pleasure of working with every day!

Wardah Tariq — Business Development Officer

I’m proud to contribute to projects that help strengthen power systems around the world while bringing Manitoba to the international stage. I find that expanding representation in the industry will always be important and International Women’s Day is a reminder that the grid is stronger when there’s better balance. It’s exciting to see more women helping power the future of this industry and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead!
