MHI to Support Grid Strengthening and Operational Modernization in Kenya

MHI will deliver a 22-week Grid Strengthening Technical Assistance program for Kenya's Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, with KETRACO and Kenya Power as key beneficiaries. The program is funded by Global Affairs Canada.

The assignment combines three key areas of support: PSSE system studies, targeted PSCAD™ training, and technical assistance focused on institutional, commercial, and financial performance improvement.
Through system studies, MHI will assess transmission system performance under both steady-state and dynamic conditions. The PSCAD training will strengthen local technical capabilities in renewable energy integration and transient studies, while the technical assistance component will identify practical measures to improve operational and financial performance for the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, KETRACO, and Kenya Power.

This project builds on MHI's long history of supporting Kenya's electricity sector. Over the past two decades, MHI has partnered with Kenyan utilities on major operational transformation initiatives, including utility management services, information technology modernization, and operational improvement programs.
