Meet Leah Rensfelt, Human Resource Expert

Leah Rensfelt is the Human Resource (HR) Expert for MHI’s Management Strengthening Project in Guyana, South America. Following a 38-year career at Manitoba Hydro, Leah began working with MHI in 2012. As the HR expert, she delivers training on HR related topics to the management of Guyana Power and Light Inc. (Guyana’s national utility). In addition, Leah provides ongoing coaching and support to the HR team.

Since joining MHI, Leah has lived and worked in Liberia, Nigeria, and Guyana, as an HR consultant.

“My favourite memory of working with MHI was when we were in Liberia, and found a school for underprivileged children. The facility was a shanty with no supplies, not even desks. Along with another couple, we bought material to build the school a new roof and purchased other supplies. The children and teachers were so happy to see us whenever we visited.” – Leah Rensfelt.

Leah says she has achieved a great deal professionally, and has had the opportunity to work strategically with utilities, government officials, and stakeholders.

“Working for MHI has enhanced my career and enriched my life. I have learned that when working with other cultures, it is important to always be open and considerate of our differences. My experience has made me a more empathetic and understanding person, both personally and professionally.” – Leah Rensfelt.
