Meet Caylin Bruneau, Project Manager

Caylin oversees several of the company’s major projects around the world, including MHI’s Technical Advisory Services Contract in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For this project, she manages a team of 13 long-term and various short-term staff in their efforts to recover SNEL (Société nationale d'électricité), the country’s national utility.

Caylin began her eight-year career at MHI as an intern through the Asper School of Business. Before becoming a Project Manager, Caylin worked as a business development officer. In this role, she worked on developing expressions of interests, and the technical and financial proposals required to procure projects for the company. Once MHI was awarded a contract, she supported the management of the projects.

What other projects have you been involved in?

I managed an electricity utility operations training program for the national utility of Liberia, which provided for 16 separate training courses that varied in delivery time. I also led a lender’s engineering contract, which oversaw the Itezhi-Tezhi Project (ITT) and Transmission Line Kafue-Livingston Project (KL) for the national utility of Zambia. Additionally, I am managing an electricity transmission and distribution network development project in Cape Verde.

What have you learned throughout your career at MHI?

Coming from a business rather than a technical background, this role has helped me to expand my professional knowledge and has taught me how to be resourceful when faced with new challenges. Every project I manage has different scope, goals, challenges, and stakeholders, so I am continually learning and growing.

In addition, working with individuals from different cultures, professional backgrounds, and areas of expertise has allowed me to better understand and appreciate these differences as well as their benefits.

How would you describe working at MHI?

MHI is a high-energy firm, where there is no shortage of learning or growth opportunities. Everyone working for the company is passionate about the work they do and are team oriented.

What was the best moment of your career so far?

My fondest memory of working for MHI was when my team and I visited an orphanage in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. MHI held a fundraiser and the team in the field also made contributions. We were able to donate various items, such as formula, rice, sugar, diapers, bedding, kettles, notebooks, and various Manitoba Hydro electricity safety manuals. We also brought over 30 soccer balls, which the children were especially excited for. It was remarkably humbling and powerful to be able to give back to this vibrant community.
