Meet Mark Kulchycki, Development Manager

Mark Kulchycki began his career in 2004, as a contract developer for PSCAD™/EMTDC™ software at the Manitoba HVDC Research Centre Inc., now part of MHI. Today, he directs the development of MHI's emerging technology and software group. In 2016, Mark led a special team that integrated VisualSpection into MHI’s product suite.

What is VisualSpection?

VisualSpection is an augmented reality solution framework that delivers inspection solutions through smart glasses and other wearables in some of the world’s harshest environments. This industrial software has successfully increased productivity and safety in many energy sectors.

What made you want to pursue a career in your industry?

I’m always looking for a challenge and have pushed the limits of new technology my entire career. I remember joking that we could have written the books for MS .NET and XML when we started redesigning the PSCAD framework back in 2004. No one was doing this. I’ve always been very keen on finding better ways of doing things; I like to push the envelope.

What is the most exciting aspect of your job?

I love coming to work. Seriously! The group of people I work with on a daily basis are awesome. Their drive and passion are so empowering. We’re like a family; I love working with these guys. There’s nothing we can’t do.

What has been your greatest achievement so far and why?

You can achieve anything if you bring the right people together, create the right culture, and share a common passion.

How would you describe working at MHI to a prospective employee?

The people that work at MHI are more like family than co-workers. MHI is so diverse in both expertise and culture, and it’s recognized around the world as a leader in innovation and expertise within the energy sector. There really isn’t another place like it.
